What is a Porta Potti portable toilet and how does it work?
Porta Potti's are freshwater flushing portable toilets, which needs no access to
drainage or water systems. The toilet is built from high-quality plastic that is durable,
hygienic and easy to clean.
Porta Potti portable toilets consist of two halves that can be easily taken apart and put together
again. The bottom half is the waste tank and the top half is a combined freshwater flush
tank and seating bowl. The powerfully efficient freshwater flush cleans the toilet bowl
effectively.
All portable toilets have an unique integrated swivelling pour-out spout and a pressure release
button to ensure splash free emptying of the waste holding tank. The level indicator shows
when the holding tank is nearly full. Special Thetford sanitation products are required to
ensure an effective operation of the toilet system and to offer an optimum performance.
The Thetford Porta Potti is available in different sizes and colours.

Our Thetford Porta Potti toilets are more commonly seen amongst the camping fraternity and are considered the number one and most reliable choice. Combined with either a fixed or folding frame they offer a more pleasant and dignified option than a typical commode. So what do you need? choice of Porta Potti is up to you, however if the user is infirm or less able they may have a problem when pulling the waste release handle after use. Also the 165 model can be harder to flush, as far as chemicals go there are 3 possibilities. Waste tank chemical (Aqua Kem blue or green) is essential. Most people will go for Aqua Kem blue, green is only needed when the toilet is to be emptied into a septic tank. Top tank additive (pink) is optional, this adds a nice smell to the flushing water and makes for a more pleasant set up, though not essential we do recommend it. We also supply Aqua soft (dissolvable) toilet rolls, essential if the bottom tank is allowed to fill up, however in most cases customers will not be waiting for the toilet bottom tank to fill up and will empty when less than half full. If this the case then there's probably no need for these toilet rolls and regular should do. Emptying the toilet can be done into a regular toilet, however please be aware that emptying especially a full tank into a toilet should be done with caution since there is a possibility of causing a blockage.

 To ensure
the efficient operation of portable chemical toilets,
it is necessary to use toilet additives. Thetford offers a complete range of
toilet additives to suit the varying needs of mobile
toilets for camping, caravanning and domestic use.
What do Thetford toilet additives do?
Thetford waste holding tank additives reduce unpleasant odours and gas build-up. They
break down waste matter in toilet holding tanks and prevent clogging. They also prevent
deposits from sticking to the inside of waste tanks. Toilet additives are necessary to
make mobile sanitation systems work trouble free.
Our flushwater tank additive keeps the water ‘fresh’, ensures a smoother, better
flush and leaves a protective film in the toilet bowl.
What types of additives are available for chemical
toilets ?
There are additives for the waste holding tank, for the flushwater tank and there are
maintenance products. Your porta potti in general
requires two main chemicals, the chemical for the bottom "waste" tank, either
Aquakem blue or green is suitable and is essential, and flushing fluid "Aqua
rinse" which is optional and is added to the flushing water top tank.
Although this is not essential it makes usage of a chemical toilet a more pleasant experience.
